Disney Plus is a streaming service that offers a lot of content for different types of people. If you’re having trouble streaming Disney Plus on your Samsung Smart TV, this article can help you.

If you’re having problems with any app on your Samsung Smart TV, be sure to read this article on how to fix common Smart TV issues.

What are some common issues with Disney Plus on Samsung Smart TVs?

Samsung TV Disney Plus blue or black screen

The blue or black screen on Samsung TVs when trying to watch Disney Plus is caused by an outdated app or a problem with the Smart Hub.

To fix the issue, you can reset the Smart Hub or update the app.

Samsung TV Disney Plus not installing

There are a few reasons why the Disney Plus app might not be installing on your Samsung Smart TV.

The first possibility is that you don’t have an active internet connection. Make sure that your modem or router is connected to the power source, and wait a minute or two for it to restart.

If your TV supports Disney Plus, another possibility is that you need to update the system software. To do this, go to your TV’s settings and look for the “update” option. Once the software is updated, try searching for Disney Plus again.

It’s also possible that your TV is trying to install an update; in this case, you should wait for the update to finish before trying to install Disney Plus again.

Finally, keep in mind that on TVs manufactured before 2016, Disney Plus may not be supported.

Samsung TV Disney Plus not opening

If the Disney Plus app on your Samsung TV isn’t opening, it could be because your TV isn’t compatible, you haven’t power cycled it, or because the app needs to be updated.

You can also try clearing the Disney+ app cache files on your TV, re-installing the app, or resetting the Samsung smart hub settings or software update settings on your TV.

If none of these work, it’s possible that there is a geo-restriction from Disney Plus or that you don’t have an active subscription.

You should also check to see if the date and time are set correctly on your TV.

If you’re still having trouble, you can try force closing the Disney Plus app and opening it again or contact Samsung for technical support.

Samsung TV Disney Plus no 4K screen

If you have a Samsung TV that is not 4K resolution, you may still be able to watch Disney Plus content.

Even if you don’t have a 4K TV, the Disney Plus app will still work on your Samsung Smart TV.

If you’re having display issues, try powering your TV off and on. If that doesn’t work, try contacting Samsung Support.

Samsung TV Disney Plus buffering timeout

The Samsung TV Disney Plus buffering timeout issue is when the screen turns black for a brief moment while using the Disney Plus app.

There are a few steps that may fix the issue: turn off TV, close app, and try the app again; restart Internet connection; and check your internet connection.

How can I fix Disney Plus if it’s not working on my Samsung Smart TV?

Step 1: Check if your Samsung TV is compatible with Disney Plus

The funny thing about this is that not all Samsung TVs are compatible with the Disney+ app. In fact some Samsung TVs dating back before 2016 might not actually be able to run Disney+.

Also, some Samsung TVs run off of an older version of the Tizen operating system And because Disney+ is only compatible with Android, you’ll find yourself having a hard time even finding the app to download.

Even so, if your TV is even older than 2016, then it’s probably running the old Orsay operating system which will likely not be compatible with Disney+ as well.

You can try and download the Disney+ app on your Samsung TV by following these steps:

  1. Press the Home button on your remote
  2. Click on Apps and then click on the Search icon
  3. Type in Disney+
  4. Click on Install

After typing in Disney+, if you don’t see it showing up, then you’ll most likely won’t be able to watch Disney+ from your Samsung TV.

A good alternative would be just to buy yourself a Google Chromecast which is basically a media streaming device that runs a slimmed-down version of the Google Play Store for streaming media on TV.

Step 2: Make sure you have a good internet connection

If you have poor internet speed, then it’s likely that your TV won’t be able to run Disney+. Disney+ is run on an internet connection, not from a local TV antenna.

In this case you’re going to have to have a decent and stable internet connection.

Test to see if your Wi-Fi router or modem are working. The easiest way to do so is to connect your smartphone to the Wi-Fi and see whether or not you can open up a website on a browser.

Better yet you can try opening up YouTube and seeing if a video will play. If it does, then your internet connection is fine. But if it’s struggling to open up the page or video, then you might have a bad internet connection.

If you have a bad internet connection, then follow these instructions:

  1. Unplug the power to both your Wi-Fi router and modem
  2. Also, disconnect the Ethernet cables from your router and modem as well
  3. Wait 30 seconds to a minute
  4. Then, reconnect the power and the Ethernet cables
  5. Check to see if you have internet now

If your internet connection is still bad at this point, then the only thing you could really do is call your internet service provider for assistance.

Your internet company should be able to tell you whether or not there is an ongoing maintenance of your Wi-Fi towers. If there’s nothing going on, then the representative can also reboot the connection from the towers to your modem.

Step 3: Check for Disney Plus streaming service outage

If you’re having trouble with the Disney Plus streaming service, there are a few ways you can check to see if there is an outage.

One way is to look at social media updates. You’ll find that Disney does update their customers on their @DisneyPlusHelp Twitter handle.

This Twitter feed is highly active, often up-to-date, and in real-time. When Disney has issues, you’ll find everything you need to know right here. If there is an outage, you’ll have to wait for it to be resolved.

Step 4: Force close the Disney Plus app

Sometimes there are glitches in software that corrupt and a freeze up the data inside your Disney+ app. It can result in your Disney+ app performing sluggishly and even freezing.

Sometimes, the solution is just to perform a force close on the app itself.

Here’s how:

  1. Press the Home button on your Samsung remote
  2. Select Smart Hub
  3. Click on Applications
  4. Search for and select your Disney+ app
  5. Click on More Options
  6. Select Force Close

Step 5: Update the Disney Plus app

Sometimes, the reason why the Disney Plus app isn’t working is because it’s from an older release. There’s now a new one.

In essence, the very reason for updating your app is because developers have improved the app in some way, shape, or form.

When a software issue occurs, it’s the job of the developer to solve this issue and release a solution in a timely manner. It could be that your current firmware is buggy or corrupted and updating this app will solve the issue.

To update the app, follow these directions:

  1. Press the Home button on the remote
  2. Click on Apps
  3. Select the Settings icon and press Enter
  4. Scroll down to Auto update and press Enter

This will tell the TV to automatically update all it’s installed apps. If you want to specifically update the Disney Plus app:

  1. You’ll have to navigate to the app
  2. Click on Open
  3. If the app has an update available, the Update button will appear
  4. Click on Update and the update will download and install all on it’s own

Step 6: Reinstall the Disney Plus app

The reason why your Disney Plus app might not be working on your Samsung TV might be due to some corruption in the installed app.

The data might have been damaged in the middle of the download somewhere down the line.

What I suggest is that you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the Disney Plus app to get a brand new slate.

We’ll start with uninstalling the app:

  1. Tap the Home button on the app
  2. Highlight the Disney Plus app, and then press the down button on your remote
  3. Click on Edit list
  4. Then click on Remove

Now that we’ve uninstalled the Disney Plus app, which may have had some bad data in it, it’s now time to install a brand new one.

  1. On your remote, press the Home button
  2. Click on Apps
  3. Click on the Search icon
  4. Find the Disney Plus app
  5. Once you’ve found it, select Install

After a few minutes, your Samsung TV should’ve already downloaded and installed the app and now you can try it out.

Step 7: Reset Samsung Smart Hub

Your Samsung TVs Smart Hub is a software program that acts as a central location to access all of your apps, games, and browser.

It is home to all your apps including the Disney+ app.

Sometimes when there’s a problem with your Smart Hub, the only solution is to reset it.

Here’s how to reset your Samsung Smart Hub.

  1. Press the Home button on your remote
  2. Navigate to the left until you can reach and click on Menu
  3. Click on Settings
  4. Click on All Settings
  5. Then click on Support
  6. Click on Device Care
  7. Click on Self Diagnosis
  8. Now you can click on Reset Smart Hub
  9. Enter your TV PIN (by default, it’s 0000)

Step 8: Turn Off Your VPN

A VPN does a few things, first it helps you get some privacy when you are on the internet and streaming any sort of content, which is great, when you are not using any sort of app or other extension that does require that your location is on.

Disney + is an app that does use your location for a variety of things including determining what sort of legal jurisdiction you have to play certain content.

If you have a VPN that leaks data or that sometimes gives away your real location it is going to tip Disney + off so that they know you are using a VPN and that the location that it is giving off is not your actual location.

If your VPN is not secure or it is giving off your real location from time to time, it is going to make Disney + throw a code and not work. Try turning off your VPN to see if that helps.

Step 9: Update Samsung TV

Another issue you might be having is that your TV simply needs to be updated.

This is going to be an issue with the television being able to run the app rather than the app itself.

Samsung is going to keep putting out updates to help you have the smoothest and best experience with your television every time you sit down to watch it.

To check for updates you need to go to the setting menu of your television and then click check for updates.

Step 10: Check for geo-restrictions

Another issue you might be dealing with are geo-restrictions.

On your Disney + your location is going to be the key to accessing a lot of information and content.

If you live in a geo-restricted country like Malaysia, Philippines, China, and Thailand, you are likely not going to be able to use Disney +.

You can get a VPN if you live in these countries to mask your true location so that you can access the app.

Step 11: Factory Reset your TV

You may need a factory reset of your television. In some cases you might have too many apps, you may have too many settings ticked, or you may just have a television that is over burdened.

If that is the case, a factory reset might be just what is needed to get your television back on track. To factory reset your Samsung TV here are the steps:

  1. Open Settings and go to the General Settings menu
  2. Select Reset on the menu. If you have a pin number use it, if you do not have a pin number the default is 0000.
  3. To complete the reset you have to press OK then the television will go ahead and complete the reset for you.
  4. There is also a self diagnose menu on most Samsung televisions that you might be able to use to help figure out what is going on with your television and what the problem might be.

Step 12: Check the power running through your TV

This is a rather self explanatory step, if your television is not working properly or does not have power it might be that you need to either plug your television in or get a better power source.

You will know that there is something wrong with your television and its power source fairly quickly as a television that is not working or that has a faulty power source is going to short out, it may not turn on at all and it is going to be tricky to watch at all.

Step 13: Is Disney Plus available in your country?

We have already brushed this topic a little but if you are in a country where Disney + is not available you may have to get a VPN to help mask where you are so that you can then access the app.

Some countries have Disney + and other video streaming apps blocked or severely restricted for political reasons so you do have to do a bit of extra work if you to be able to access the app and actually see the content on it.

Step 14: Clear Disney Plus app cache

Another issue you might be running into is that the cache for the Disney + app is backed up. To clear the cache for your Disney + app you can follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings from the home screen of your television and then access Settings.
  2. Go to the Disney + app settings
  3. Click on Storage and then tap on clear Cache.
  4. You then also want to Clear Data.

This is going to get your Disney + app back to its original settings and help free up some space so that you can really use it and so that you can avoid having to deal with cache issues.

Step 15: Power cycle your Samsung TV

The last thing you might want to do is power cycle your television.

This is just a manual shut off that sort of helps to reboot the apps that you are using and helps to get the television back working properly.

To do this you need to hold down the power button on the remote to help force the television to shut off then come back on.

This entire process should not take longer than a few seconds.

This will force all open apps to shut down, and then you will have to go back and open up the apps again when your television starts back up and you are ready to try watching again.
